Research has shown that children and youth matched to a mentor:

  • Are 46% less likely to begin using drugs.
  • Are 52% less likely to skip school.
  • Are more likely to attend university than their unmatched peers. Have improved confidence, self-esteem and peer relationships.

Children feel valued in the mentoring relationship, are exposed to new skills and have an improved attitude towards school:

  • 83% of the children said they felt good about themselves

  • 93% of the children said they feel special when they spend time with their mentor

  • 99% of the children said they do fun things with their mentor

  • 93% of the children felt that their mentor always listened to them

  • 87% of the children said that they know they need to be in school

  • 75% of the children said that they were doing their best at school

  • 62% of the children said that they are able to get along with other children who are different than themselves (different country, language, gender)

  • 96% of the children said that they look forward to their visits with their mentor

Volunteers form a caring relationship with a child or youth:

  • 73% of Volunteers said their Little has made positive improvements since they started mentoring

  • 86% of volunteers said that their Littlefelt that school was important

  • 86% of volunteers said they had fun with their Little

  • 86% of volunteers said they look forward to their visits with their Little

  • 71% of volunteers said that they learned skills that will help them in the future

Teachers said the following about our school-based mentoring programs:

  • 96% of teachers said the mentoring activities provides the student with the opportunity to have a positive role model and learn positive relationship skills

  • 98% of teachers said the mentoring experience had been a positive influence on the student

  • 91% of teachers said the mentoring experience makes the student feel positive about himself/herself

Youth have an improvement in their attitude towards school, have an enhanced awareness of future options and increased sense of hope and feel valued in the mentoring relationship.

  • 90% said they were able to talk more about situations that they are facing

  • 89% said they tried to see things from another person’s point of view more often

  • 76% said that they see that school is important to help them reach their goals

  • 86% said that they felt better about themselves

  • 90% said that they wanted to succeed more

  • 74% said they thought they believed they would continue learning after high school

  • 95% said they thought their mentor cared for them

  • 100% said they thought their mentor listened to them
